The counseling program in our school is available to help students, parents, and teachers develop positive learning experiences. The program consists of a variety of services and activities, including individual and small group guidance, classroom guidance, parent and teacher consultation, information services, and referral assistance to other programs and services in the community

Highlights



New Student Small Groups - I meet with all the new students in small groups during the first few weeks of school. We focus on adjustment, friendship, and orientation issues. I periodically eat lunch with the new students as well.

Small Group Guidance - Topics include: friendship, social skills and changing families.
Individual Guidance - A large portion of my day includes providing support services for individual students. I work with students on a variety of concerns from friendship to divorce.

Classroom Guidance - PK-5 classrooms have 30 minute sessions each week. The lessons presented are proactive in nature and developmentally appropriate. The following is an outline of the units presented:

Pre-K and Kindergarten *DUSO (Developing Understanding in Self and Others), Manners

1st *DUSO (Developing Understanding in Self and Others)

2nd *Getting Along with Others, Manners (social skills)

3rd *Alcohol and other Drugs (Skills for Growing Curriculum)

4th *Conflict Resolution

5th *Communication Skills (Starting, maintaining, and ending a conversation - listening skills)


6th grade Exploratory Class

Skills for Adolescence - Lions-Quest program that has the following program goals:
  • To help young people develop positive social behaviors


  • To help young people acquire the social skills necessary to lead healthy and productive lives


  • To help young people develop strong commitments to peers, schools, and communities


  • To help young people develop strong commitments to themselves to live healthy, drug-free lives


  • To support parents, teachers, and others in finding a constant renewal and energy needed in supporting young people
